The Donegal Minor League started when the new Competition Secretary of Letterkenny G.C was asked to see if there would be an interest in an inter clubs competition for 18-24 Handicaps. It operated for many years independent of the Donegal Golf Committee. In the early years it was played on a League basis between Letterkenny, B &S, Bundoran and Gweedore for the famous shield which records that these clubs donated the trophy. When all of the clubs in the County joined in the competition in the a 90's it was then played on the knockout basis we are familiar with today.
